Tonight was one of the toughest nights of my life, I know people say and write this all the time but please, take nothing for granted. There is so much everyone has to live for and there wasn't enough time for one boy who was taken from us all way too soon. Tonight I went to the wake for Ryan James Schackne, by far one of the hardest things to do. When you grow up with someone and talk to them everyday and go over their house and befriend them and their family members, it's not easy to let them go. Kids are supposed to outlive their parents, ryan didn't even outlive his grandparents. The only thing I found comfort in tonight was Hope, ryan's mother, she was so strong. Through all this she always looked for the best and even tonight, standing in front of her son, she held strong and comforted those who couldn't. Her hug tonight, and what she told me, helped me more than anyone else I have talked to in the last few days. She held me close and told me that her door is always open and that I should stop by sometime to talk and to just visit. She told me that ryan is now in a better place and to just keep the wonderful memories we had together in my thoughts and my heart. She told me that her daughter still asks about me and that she told ryan how good I was doing after open school night when my mom talked to her. God has a plan for everyone, and Ryan's was to be taken in now, in the hands of wonderful people and to be suffering no more. He's in a better place now.

Ryan James Schackne, 16, beloved son of Paul and Hope. Loving brother of Dana-Marie and Justin. Ryan passed peacefully after a courageous one year battle with bone cancer. Ryan touched so many with his love and will be missed dearly by all. Although you were with us for only 16 years, you taught us all what true strength really is. Dear Pat,

I want to thank you for all the things you do for me. Sometimes it just takes someone telling you flat out what's going on to realize the things you need to fix with yourself. You are the only person who thoughout what's going on has told me what I need to hear rather then what I want to hear. You, by far, helped me the most in the past week. You are the one that will stick by me and include me when I feel most alone and left out. I know that we didn't always get along in the past. There are some days when you just go through the day living by the minute and then at the end of the day when you reflect on it all you realize how bad it was.
